So, it was not easy to choose the first private ghazal of his for this blog.

Talat has sung many private ghazals and songs.

Then slowly I developed the “taste” and started loving his style. It took me a while to “feel” the voice of this great singer. My list of Talat Mahmood’s songs was limited upto Jalte hai jiske liye (Sujata), Jaye to jaye kahan(Taxi Driver) and few more.

Even though K.L.Saigal, Pankaj Mullick and others were seniors and had beautiful ghazals under their name, pehali private ghazal maine Talat Sahab ki suni. When I think about private ghazals, the first singer in my list is Talat Mahmood. Sorry I just got carried away with my childhood memories and Rafi’s bhajans. yeh alag baat hai ki subah ki bhaag daud mein to pura bhajan kabhi dhyaan se nahi suna tha, lekin us bhajan se jo mood ban ta tha uska mahatwa aaj samaj sakti hoon. I remember my early school days, when my father would keep radio on and we (brother + sister) used to listen to his private bhajans early morning while getting ready for school. Rafi is at the top, not just because I am a huge fan of him, but when it came to bhajan, let it be for a movie or as a private one, he portrayed the quality of a true religious person by giving the best voice/effect for all the bhajans.

The history proves that these versatile singers never discriminated between a movie song and a private song/ghazal/bhajan when it came to the quality of their voice. The list includes K.L.Saigal, Pankaj Mulick, Jagmohan, C.H.Atma, Lata Mangeshkar, Mohd.Rafi, Asha Bhonsle, Mukesh, Manna Dey, Talat Mahmood, Geeta Dutt, Kishore Kumar( which is something new to me and thanks to Arunji for that info) and may be few more. Hindi Cinema has given us the treasure of so many melodious singers who never restricted their ability only for the movie songs.
